MISS AMERICA (prev: HEARTBEATS) ( 2025 JMF Writer’s Grove @ Goodspeed, 2025 O’Neill NMTC Semi-Finalist) tells the story of Eve — a driven, idealistic, and accidentally pregnant Indiana 17-year-old, just as she's about to follow her dreams at college. After a thwarted illegal abortion attempt, Eve ends up in the New Life Unit: a pilot prison program created by the federal government since the passage of the Unborn Protection Act, which codified abortion as murder. Over the next 9 months, Eve, alongside her fellow inmates, must reckon with parenthood, purpose, and mortality. With (dark) comedy and heart, MISS AMERICA explores how America's harsh dictums on sex and gender affect all of us.
